“The arrivals hall could not even be called uncomfortable. It was monstrous, a design catastrophe that would make a dusty bus station miles from anywhere seem lively and convivial by comparison. There was a hot-dog stand that served an inedible, nutrition-free parody of food, a newsstand with a display of condoms and smutty magazines, some empty conveyor belts for luggage, and a number of chairs that might have been designed during the heyday of the Spanish Inquisition.”

I’m up. Already repaired a vacuum cleaner, fixed the fridge, fallen over, eaten overnight oats, drunk half my daily allowance of coffee and regretted putting Bloomberg News + on (I like the little charts and tickers, sue me). I’ve had a headache for three weeks. Today, and probably all week, is working out the rest of PROJECT GENEVA — today in particular is going to be an uphill push, as three out of the five modules are not ready and two of those are mine.
Inbox 21, and I’m probably not going to be looking at the inbox much, as I have to put on some Jim Butler and go into deep thinking mode. Good morning, reader.
It is somehow the end of the week again. Week 135 of lockdown, I think. I am very behind with work and still haven’t been able to clear time to think about way to stay in work past the end of June and my hands are killing me. So I’m shutting this down until Monday. Inbox 10 and the coffee is NOT working. Newsletter goes out on Sunday from orbitaloperations.com. Have a wonderful weekend, reader. Not dead yet.
Sharp-eyed reader Adrian McEwen just spotted this and sent it to me. Buy your own decommissioned nuclear reactor control and monitoring system. The details at the auction site are basically non-existent, but the current bid is a mere eighty quid. I mean, you know the shipping is gonna kill you. And I have nowhere to put it. But still. I can daydream. When I was very very little, my dad built me a “spaceship console” to play with, and this would absolutely be the fifty-years-later version for me. Thanks, Adrian.
“Einar Rönn’s room was at the rear of the central police building on Kungsholmsgatan. From the window he had a view out over an immense hole in the ground – out of which the gigantic showy building of the National Police Board would in due course rise up and obscure the view. From this ultramodern colossus in the heart of Stockholm the police would extend their tentacles in every direction and hold the dispirited citizens of Sweden in an iron grip. At least some of them. After all, they couldn’t all emigrate or commit suicide.”

I pull these out occasionally and look at them. One of my best friends gave them to me a few years back. There were more, but my daughter stole three of them.
Inbox 7, which, frankly, is kind of glorious. I have no idea what’s going on across social media anywhere, which is also glorious. I have a big backlog of Bandcamp releases to listen to (currently gagaku improvizazia by ukujula), I’ve managed to eat twice today and drink watermelon & pomegranate juice and sink a litre of water, all of which will hopefully help with the murderous allergies. I even remembered to eat a multivitamin today with my small supplement stack. So far, everything is going well. Which means the world will catch fire in a few hours. Right now, I need to zero in on work things. Good morning.

Note the sheer glamour of this job. Basically a big emailing day, interspersed with staring at documents and scribbling down notes, which was annoying since I really needed the space to write. Also hampered by a longterm health issue flare in the afternoon. So tomorrow is writing, top to bottom. And meal planning, because I keep forgetting to eat and drink water. There may be more tedious photos of food just to log that I’m actually eating. Also, of course, I am generally failing to post here. Pfffft. Fresh start tomorrow. G’night.
