Have to log this one before I forget it. A plug-in emulator for the Webtoon/Tapas style vertical scroll webcomic strip form – Toocheke. Ever wanted to make a mobile-first digital comic without wanting to be in the Webtoon/Tapas ecology? Prefer self-hosted? Prefer to be able to edit your own presentation and theme? This would seem to be the way to do it. Pay the premium (which, yes, is an eye-watering USD $79) and you can hook in Patreon and WooCommerce and get a panel-by-panel swipe navigation, but it seems to me that the free plug-in is good enough for experimentation and most use cases. It just occurred to me over the weekend that a Webtoon emulator may be exactly what some people are looking for. I’d try that out in a second.

Bruce Sterling’s veteran beat in the dusty basement corridors of WIRED, Beyond The Beyond, has finally come to and end. Wired.com pulled the RSS feed element from it years ago, and between that and Wired’s determination to make work on its site difficult to access and read, it became harder and harder to find.
Here, Bruce lays it to rest. Bruce, I am raising a glass to you here in the office, and leaving a cigarette in the packet for you to steal.
“instead of combatting bleak downside-scenarios while tensely listening for sirens or fire alarms, I’m better suited to some bespectacled garage tinkering, some pottering in gardens, and whatever serene hobbies might grace a cyberpunk’s golden years.
“So I might well have gone on blogging here indefinitely, through dint of mature habit, but I can recognize that fate has handed me a get-out-of-jail-free card. The post-Internet may even be a different Monopoly board-game. So I will accept the situation graciously, and with a sense of contentment.”
Seventeen years. Hell of an innings.
“A clay death mask crafted by the Tagar culture more than 2,000 years ago, which was first discovered among about 15 sets of cremated human remains in a burial mound in eastern Siberia in 1968, actually contained the skull of a ram.”
I’m in a certain zone for a thing. It occurred to me that maybe I could do part of my boarding and materials stockpiling here, and I need to figure out how to categorise and locate things.
There is still no elegant low-click way to send podcasts from Downcast to WordPress. In fact, since the Press This bookmarklet went away, this is all more hands-on than I’m used to. Anyway, here’s Hypnagogue 296, which is very much my thing today.
Huh. I wonder if I can just strip the audio in here. Is that a bad thing to do? Hmmm.
