I’m going to be buried in PROJECT GENEVA today and tomorrow, and then trying to take Friday and the weekend for work-thinking time, as I still have a future to figure out. Inbox 13 right now. All responses will be slow, as I need to keep my head in the various moving parts of GENEVA for as long as possible. Oh hey the post just showed up AND IT’S A BOX
WARREN ELLIS LTD Articles.
So much for my “just going to sit here and think about work future and new ideas.” A bunch of stuff happened that I had to attend to immediately, and which will take up the next couple of days. Today looked like:
HEAVEN’S FOREST notes received/processed
HEAVEN’S FOREST design materials processed
zero draft of PROJECT GENEVA overview bible circulated
added 500 words to zero draft
logline for GENEVA module rewritten/circulated
GENEVA overall update circulated
GENEVA module outline received/processed/annotated (partial)
many emails written
And probably some other stuff. We are closing at Inbox 6 and probably a lot of missed messages. Had Eliane Radigue on loop all day. G’night.
Have to log this one before I forget it. A plug-in emulator for the Webtoon/Tapas style vertical scroll webcomic strip form – Toocheke. Ever wanted to make a mobile-first digital comic without wanting to be in the Webtoon/Tapas ecology? Prefer self-hosted? Prefer to be able to edit your own presentation and theme? This would seem to be the way to do it. Pay the premium (which, yes, is an eye-watering USD $79) and you can hook in Patreon and WooCommerce and get a panel-by-panel swipe navigation, but it seems to me that the free plug-in is good enough for experimentation and most use cases. It just occurred to me over the weekend that a Webtoon emulator may be exactly what some people are looking for. I’d try that out in a second.
Past Inside The Present, who can be found at pitp.bandcamp.com – I suspect I’m going to be doing some deep digging into their back catalogue soon.
Here is an old photo from The Before Times. Spent yesterday resting, zoning out, watching much of the Finnish crime show BORDERTOWN, with a wonderfully clever and eccentric lead performance by Ville Virtanen, and staring at notebooks and the boards. Still kind of hazy and tapped out. Today and tomorrow are thinking days, so I will just pop up here every now and then when I rise and surface from the inside of my head. Inbox 2.
As with most work notes, just a log for myself: just filed the first draft of HEAVEN’S FOREST 108, the final episode of the season. So there’s nothing left but a rewrite and a polish of episode 1 because I thought of a tweak to add there. But, basically, all the heavy lifting is done, it’s off the board, the hard part is all over, and it’s in the hands of my poor co-directors to make sense of and turn into something worth watching.
I’m off for a whisky.
Well, it’s been a shitty week so far, and I don’t expect today to be much different, so I’m switching off for a few days to plow through what’s on my desk, because it’s all backed up and I still haven’t gotten the newsletter started. Also I caught a look at myself in the mirror and I think I have Pandemic Beard now. I’m not quite at the “sitting in the garden tying twigs and stones into the beard” point, but let’s see where I am by Sunday.
My friend Jason Howard’s new book from Image got announced.
Inbox 17, I have at least one phone conference today, I have a near-permanent mild headache, I probably smell of unwashed cave bear, but the sun is out and I’m not dead yet. I consider this to be entirely good enough for (asks Echo what day it is because who even knows anymore) a Thursday.
I have Bloomberg TV up and everything is red except pharma and digital cinema. The word “cataclysm” is being used a lot. No wonder my brain hurts.
Listening to THE ASCENT TO ABSOLUTE BEAUTY by blacktantra.
Been tied up with a bunch of stuff today, and I have a lot more work stuff to think about, so I’m out, BUT there’s a new Julianna Barwick record coming! juliannabarwick.bandcamp.com for those reading this on IG.
