status 2jan25

2025 is born.

I do not feel like it’s going to be an easy one.

For me, 2025 needs to be a year of industry. A year of less farting around and more production, while I can still do it. I’m behind on a great many things, and I have many plans rotting unactioned in my notebook. Last year was very much about sorting myself out and getting moving, but it was also about resting and running out of steam too often.

I’m going to be trying a lot of different things this year, and most of them will fail, but that doesn’t matter. The point is in trying them and learning from them.

Do you think those “fail better” people ever actually read WORSTWARD HO? I was talking about that with my daughter’s partner over Xmas and the aspiration bros who use “fail better” all the time confuse the shit out of both of us.

Back to the lab. Here we go again.

OPERATIONS: Updating the boards. Need to follow up on one or two things, but today is mostly about arranging the first few months of the year, getting the targets in clear sight and identifying what needs to be invented.
STATUS: Inbox is still in the 140s, but a ton of those are links to digital screeners I haven’t processed yet. This year, email, WhatsApp and Signal are the ways to get me. I do have Instagram, because I like looking at pictures occasionally, but its notifications are switched off.
READING: I seem to have gone down a Russian politics rabbit hole.
LISTENING: new Forndom
LAST WATCHED: A COMPLETE UNKNOWN. I have tickets for NOSFERATU.

THINKING ABOUT:

There will be a new form, and this form will be of such a type that it admits the chaos and does not try to say that the chaos is really something else. To find a form that accommodates the mess: that is the task of the artist now.
