Yesterday: scripting, polished and locked a DEPT MIDNIGHT episode, project outline development, sowed veg and flower seeds.
ON DECK: Basically, rinse and repeat, and try and shake the cold out of my fingers. INBOX: 75 LISTENING:
READING: catching up on Lordess’ PHANTOM PLEASURE. OUTSIDE: a personal curiosity solved. It’s Keanu Reeves himself who’s been stripping out John Wick’s dialogue. I noticed it in WICK 3 and I wondered who’d made that choice.
(Having to finish this draft post on phone because I woke up to discover broadband and tv were down and may not be coming back today. Contact will be phone text only)
(edit: back up)
Crunch week! Also, Greenwich Mean Time! Which I forgot about! And woke up at what turned out to be 1140am on Sunday! And was very confused! (I knew I’d wake up late, because I spent Sunday afternoon splitting, digging up and replanting a giant phormium, which required me to dig out and lift a ton of broken hardcore that somehow got buried in the garden years ago without our knowledge. But not that late.)
Anyway, this week I’m on double-time, wrapping the DEPARTMENT OF MIDNIGHT polishes while scripting and outlining on other projects.
ON DECK: immediately, finishing one script and going through DEPT MIDNIGHT 101 one more time. Hopefully 102 as well. And, if it stops raining, tying up some plants. I lost a blackberry to the storm early Sunday morning – it woke me up at 4am, because it sounded like someone blasting the windows with gravel. INBOX: LISTENING:
READING: 836 posts backed up in my RSS reader!
SHIPPING FORECAST: Let’s see how much I can get done this week.
I took a look at this monstrosity today and thought – today’s the day to clear the hardcore out of the corner of the garden, cut and split this, dig it up and replant it somewhere else. 15 minutes later the sky went dark and the temperature dropped two points. So maybe this is a weekend job.
ON DECK: Scripting! Since apparently I won’t be lifting and digging. Going to see if I can land a whole script today. INBOX: 70 LISTENING:Unclassified READING: LRB LAST WATCHED: BIG SKY, BIG DREAMS, BIG ART – episode 1 of which is apparently unavailable on streaming for some reason
Totally lost track of time yesterday, ended up working on an outline until past 1am to re-assemble and clean up its complications. I do these things to myself. Also had to switch on double opt-in on my newsletter as someone set a bot on it and by the afternoon 600 machine-generated Gmail addresses had subscribed. That sort of thing can be terrible for sending authority. I dislike double opt-in, because in my experience some newsletter hosts just can’t make it work properly. We will see if Beehiiv can, I guess – or I’ll just switch it off again when I resume the newsletter in a couple of weeks (I’m taking a break to get some pressing work done).
ON DECK: Finishing that outline, pulling up two rewrites, starting a new outline INBOX: 67 READING: very into PLANTA SAPIENS
ON DECK: I fell behind a bit yesterday due to mind wandering and a work light dying, so I need to get moving today. Lucky the new coffee beans arrived. Bad news: they have to sit for 36 hours after roasting to offgas. Also I have some deliveries incoming which will break up the day, and I need to repot some raspberry canes before it gets dark, so… INBOX: 66, am responding to email steadily LISTENING:
SHIPPING FORECAST: I also have some more notions and hardly-baked thoughts I want to note down this week
ON DECK: Eyestrain, mostly. Clock is ticking on a few things. Spring is happening outside and I want to be sowing seeds, but I have to assemble an outline, process some stuff and drink all the coffee. Just ordered some more green coffee beans to roast, from Redber – I want to find a reliable supplier, and I’m starting with them, because they had green peaberry beans, and one of the best coffees I ever tasted was a Bolivian peaberry. INBOX: 68. Many things going on. LISTENING:
Today, I need to get my beard trimmed back and out of hedge-hobo status. Spring is starting to happen – a bit of chill forecast for the coming weekend, but probably nothing the garden can’t handle. I’m starting to see new growth out there. This week begins the period where I’ll be spending more time working outside. Which coincides with a bunch of writing work needing to be executed on the hurry-up, so I have a full few weeks ahead. Time for me to wake up into spring too.
Yeah. Sorry. I haven’t cut my beard since the end of summer. I took a look in the mirror today and now I am more hedge than man. It’s the vernal equinox on Monday, so Monday is when I cut most of this off and get ready for warmer days.
ON DECK: Various things, but the rain is expected to pass and we’ll get to 14C when the sun comes out, so I’m going to get to pricking out and potting up later, and rebuild the mini-greenhouse that got smashed by the high winds at the weekend. I’m home alone for a few days, so I can catch up on the work (WRITTLE 2 106, DEPT MIDNIGHT polishes, consultancy work, newsletter) tonight. INBOX: 48 LISTENING:
READING: went back and re-read a section of the new introduction to Schrader’s TRANSCENDENTAL STYLE IN FILM for research and development reasons OUTSIDE: is where I plan to be later
ON DECK: Today I need to look at my scheduling for the next couple of weeks, to make sure I get everything landed on time with space around them to allow for problems and to ensure I have room to manoeuvre if something pops early. Beginning the WRITTLE 2 audio drama podcast episode 106 today. SHIPPING FORECAST: I need to collect thoughts later today.
