As the cold crept into the house last night, I daydreamed (nightdreamed? Pre-dreamed?) about autumn and winter food. High winds are here, and the rain is coming at the weekend. I will have two days at the end of the week to do the essential garden tasks. I’m eating trout and samphire, but soon I can have soups, rolls stuffed with roast pork and apple sauce, scrambled eggs… we don’t know how to eat in summer in this house. We are autumn and winter people.

OPERATIONS: Already deep in it – reformatted and started the newsletter, moving between an outline and a script, surveyed the garden, got a contract fully executed, did my calculations for year-end
