
I’ve never actually read Houellebecq – I have a vague and probably false notion of him as the controversialist French version of Franzen – but this kept showing up in my recommendations. I have known people far cleverer than me who insist Lovecraft is in fact the defining writer of the 20th Century. I am not one of them. I am willing to be convinced.
