This actually kind of comes under “knowledge work,” because you need the tools at hand to do the work.
I could pretend I’m “asking for a friend,” right?
Ultimately, what do you need at hand to do the work and solve the problems when you’re just rattling around the house, leaving shit in random locations because “you’ll come back to it later” or do a Ben Franklin and promise yourself an hour of putting things in their places at some point in the impossible future, putting off something to another time because you’re settled downstairs on the sofa and the pen you need is upstairs in the office – just — not having the required thing in reach in the moment?
I haven’t unpacked any of my light work/travel bags in two years. God only knows what’s lurking in them that I think I’ve lost or have even forgotten about.
This was my remote work bag in late 2019.
Possibly I just have so much time on my hands that my distracted brain is giving me permission to waste energy on this train of thought. On the other hand: if working from home is now going to be a thing for larger numbers of people than ever before, this may be a thing that needs to be considered more. The whole point of EDC, after all, is to have as little friction as possible between the thought and the act.
This is in “jotter” because it’s obviously just a random thought I wanted to get out in front of me so I could see it properly. Other random thought: maybe I’m just an untidy bastard.
