I’ve wanted a copy of Samuel Beckett’s FILM for ages – saw it on tv years and years ago, and never saw it for sale on physical media. Came across it, finally, a couple of days ago (while actually looking for an interesting staging of WAITING FOR GODOT on disc and hoping for the Stewart/McKellen). This package also contains a 1979 remake I never saw starring Max Wall, a British comedian who was also a straight actor of considerable power (Beckett had him do Godot in 1979 and KRAPP’S LAST TAPE in 84), outtakes, a ton of other AV and what feels like a heavy booklet of writing.
Beckett loved older comedians of a certain stripe. Which is why FILM stars Buster Keaton, in one of his final roles.
