Properly cold out there today, and beautifully bright. I’ve decided to take the day off and go out to gather supplies, so I’m shaking out winter clothes. Picked up a new gig yesterday, and got an absolutely insane email from a publisher last night that I’m going to have fun thinking about today.

Listening to ULTIMATE CALM featuring a Ian Rankin, whom I had coffee with one and he was a lovely guy.

At cinema for ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER

Absolutely filthy day. Picked a great day to go to the cinema. And of course my replacement USB hub and XD cable is arriving while I’m at the cinema. Attempting to repair the external drive that went mad. So much for the planned week of catching up with other things. Inbox 86.

Day got held up by an external drive that’s suddenly decided to stop being visible to File Manager or Disk Management, even though I can see it in Device Manager. God forbid I should get through a day without stress.

Autumn settled in. It’s damp and the leaves are dropping. Another month and I can start transplanting some plants and rig the garden for winter. Definitely chilled in the mornings now.

TODAY:

OPERATIONS: My plan for the next two days is to fart around, recharge my brain, do some of the newsletter, take care of a couple other things, get out of the house a bit
STATUS: A paltry 7hrs 30m sleep
READING: THE BLAZING WORLD: A NEW HISTORY OF REVOLUTIONARY ENGLAND, Jonathan Healey (UK) (US+
LISTENING: Many things – processing my Bandcamp queue. If I get anything new today, it’ll show up here.

MISSION CONTROL: I can be contacted via the Cheng Caplan Company or Inkwell Management. Link in masthead to join my free newsletter.

The Barricades

The barricades are a dangerous place for an artist. They’re a trap. They ruin your vision, narrow your pupils, drain the world of its true colours. On the barricades, everything is black and white. You can’t see individuals, all you see are black dots: targets.

SECOND HAND TIME, Svetlana Alexievich

Back from visiting the kid on her birthday – the 2hrs 45m drive home turned into 5hr in some of the worst rain I’ve seen in years, zero visibility on some patches, flooded roads and closed routes. I am not exactly rested. Inbox 80, already had to force an external drive to connect and now I’m trying to make a printer wake up, so clearly everything is back to normal…

Wicked Curiosity

Augustine later argued that bad miracles were performed ‘by practitioners of the art of wicked curiosity: the art which they call magic.”
