THE VISIBLE LIGHT OF OTHER WORLDS, Laura Cannell

THE VISIBLE LIGHT OF OTHER WORLDS is the 12th solo album from the UK based Composer, Performer and Improviser Laura Cannell. Recently hailed as “The Radical Neo-medieval Musician Laura Cannell” by The Guardian. Her latest album evokes a strange new world between renaissance consort music, neo-classical & ambient music.

This is the sound of fog in a canyon light years from earth, the tempestuous flames of the sun’s surface, the imagined movement of sand in fields of dark dunes, the hurricane spirals of uninhabitable worlds. It is the residue and archived energy of long gone forests, the restless oceans and curving rift valleys of unknown lands in the untouchable reaches of the universe.

I suspect this embed won’t work, but I got reminded of the time I stayed at the Juvet Landscape Hotel, now famed as the location for EX MACHINA and SUCCESSION season 4:

Edie Campbell profile:

As part of my rapid acceleration into my boomer years, I almost always have my phone on loud. It goes back on silent as soon as I get inside the M25. But in the country, where it’s windy and blowy, I have it on loud because I don’t hear it otherwise. Also when someone calls me, it announces who is calling. I am actually 70.

Someone explain to me how Mads Mikkelsen makes the worst colours in the world work for him? See also literally every episode of HANNIBAL.

The Missing Time Travelers of 3025 Could Be a Real Scientific Problem

The Missing Time Travelers of 3025 Could Be a Real Scientific Problem

“[The paper] shows that time travel—by enabling timeline alterations—induces a dynamic instability that—with very high probability—leads to its own erasure,” Jackson wrote. “This self-suppressing mechanism results in the asymptotic convergence of all timelines toward states in which no time machines ever exist.”

I’ve got Night Tracks playing over the office speakers and The Economist’s World In Brief podcast playing in an open-ear earbud. I’ve already read the top of The Wall Street Journal, Al-Jazeera and Foreign Policy and read the Politico UK morning brief, and now I’m eating figs and almonds while sorting the rest of the overnight email. The overnight incoming is mostly newsletters these days, which suits me – half a dozen little newspapers and a few zines is what it feels like

I caught the top of a User Mag post today:

In the early days of the internet, social media offered a space where anyone could casually post thoughts, fleeting moments, and feelings about the world. But lately, that culture has disappeared. It has been replaced by highly curated influencer content, manufactured viral slop, and it feels like everyone is just posting… less.

It feels chilly today – 16C.

I’d totally forgotten that I’d pre-ordered the new Mick Herron Slough House/Slow Horses book. (UK) (US+) I won’t be able to get to it for ages, but at least I’ll know it’s waiting for me.

It’s really turned into one of those “fuck me, that is a lot of news” weeks, hasn’t it? Even Paul Krugman’s taking a day off.

OPERATIONS: behind on all things, so today’s a dead run with no fun
STATUS: 8hrs 34m sleep which was NOT enough and I am waiting on a delivery of truffled salt to season venison burgers and fries with tonight because I am exactly that monster. And I just had to order a family member a ton of foreign currency for their holiday (that I am also paying for) and I feel like I just lost a kidney, except of course that my kidneys probably aren’t worth that much money
READING: CHOKEPOINTS, Edward Fishman (UK) (US+)

“To keep the English away from the Continent by blockade without possessing fleets is just as impossible as to forbid the birds to build their nests in our country,” concluded a contemporary report from Germany.
