control center in the closed down open-cast lignite mine Ferropolis near Gräfenhainichen

Slept in this morning. Slept in so late, in fact, that the mancub came to find me. Historically, our cats have always bonded with my partner and daughter, and on the house pecking order I came somewhere below the furniture. It’s weird to have a cat who comes to see me.

Today is outlining and admin. I’m admitting to myself that I’m not going to watch any of these digital screeners I’ve been emailed links to. (Still kind of baffled that we didn’t get sent a screener for THE BRUTALIST.) Listening to Unclassified with one ear and Somebody’s Gotta Win with the other as I process my inbox.

Had a conversation yesterday where I was reminded of how I used to get news: six columns of Twitter lists filled with journalists, magazines and newspapers generating material, aggregators pulling down realtime streams from several networks, a Fire mini tablet stuck to the side of my big screen streaming Bloomberg TV and Panic Status Board running on an iPad in a stand on the other side of the laptop screen. All the aggregators and dashboards are broken or discontinued now. I don’t think it could be rebuilt. Maybe it shouldn’t be. If you made the mistake of building the Torment Nexus in the first place, maybe you shouldn’t spend time repairing it.

Also on deck: thinking about the next three editions of the newsletter. Sunday’s was about aspects of comics writing.

Bought myself a stainless steel water bottle. Decided this is the year I start getting plastics out of the house.
