
It’s a gorgeous day. I’m waiting on a small delivery of plants, and doing admin (including signing a tv-related document) while I’m waiting. Once they arrive, I’ll be outside all afternoon planting and clearing beds and probably some more cutting. Phone will be off until 5 or so. Inbox 80.
The philosopher Anne Dufourmantelle laments this absence of absence: “In today’s age, it has become intolerable to ‘withdraw ourselves,’ or else this withdrawal must be announced, scheduled, and registered, the secret garden is identified by a sign, which means that it is no longer secret.”
