Today I discovered that the Fraoch heather ale, which I stopped being able to source years ago, is not only still available but is now gluten free! Life has taken on new meaning.

The Scots have been making heather ale for more than four thousand years. This weird little island is full of miracles, and the Fraoch is among them.

When Lili was little, we would go to the specialist beer shop and she would carefully gather bottles of the Fraoch and put them in the basket for me while I browsed. And yes, we would also get something for her to try some of, because we raised her to learn about everything, including drinks. And so when she hit her teen years, she never binge drank. (And when she did get drunk she would text me her hangover level)
