Visible Functionaries

Not unlike Gilbert and George, Kraftwerk are very conscious and careful about where, and how, they place their selves in the scheme of things, about the relationships between their actual selves and the Doppler selves that function as self-signifiers onstage. They are not up and out there in a self-revealing, self-celebrating capacity but as visible functionaries, a working model of the man–machine relationship.
