Just found the cable for my old Sony 32GB mp3 player. Now all I have to do is find the player itself, which I think is stuffed in my old rollaboard bag. And then figure out if I can charge it. But that thing saved my life during ten years of plane travel. And I like a single-use device. Non-networked, wired earbuds, no distractions. it just plays music for up to 24 hours at a time and then stops. I would enjoy bringing it back to life.

It’s faintly ridiculous to associate a pile of electronic devices with simplicity. And god knows my iPhone is stuffed with music. But the Sony is just better at playing music. A multitool cannot replace a really good knife.
