Um, yeah. Suddenly got very busy with a thing. See you tomorrow.
WARREN ELLIS LTD Articles.
Today was fiddling around with two scripts, probably not more than four actual pages written but a lot of notes and thinking, and sometimes that’s just how the day goes. And some production notes, checking in with a couple of people over email, and, well, FAQ: we’re deferring production on the last two volumes of INJECTION until 2021, because corona-related business impact is going to be insurmountable for that project until the end of the year. And then we’ll blast through the whole thing in 2021.
So I’m going to leave you with this lovely record by Keith Berry as a little night music and bail out. G’night.
Coming in for a landing. Feels like it was a long day.
Today was mostly An Email Day.
Conversations with manager and co-producer on PROJECT VERSAILLES, which, it appears, is getting ordered.
MANY conversations.
Starting the deal process.
Official pass on other thing, will reset that pitch next week.
Checking in with artists, mostly on a basis of “nothing’s gonna happen” and making sure they have work.
(I had a lot of plans for this year. Not so much now.)
That should be the end of the crush. Tomorrow, I hope to be an actual writer, and start and finish some scripts.
Also I watched some of FANTASTIC VOYAGE from 1966, because that opening act still amuses me. Underground secret base in NYC full of secret-programme soldiers shooting around the place in golf carts. G’night.
Ack. Not enough got done today. Work log:
HEAVEN’S FOREST design notes
Pulling my notes together for second draft HEAVEN’S FOREST 106, and a third pass I want to do on 101 to alter the pacing.
Phone interview with Entertainment Weekly for CASTLEVANIA season 3.
Long phone conversation with manager.
Processed deal memo.
Conversation with Kevin Kolde about works in progress.
Written answers to questions for an acquaintance’s book.
Conversation with lawyer re: deal processes.
Checked in with writer friend who’s attached to one of those projects in deal process.
Checked in with Batman group editor at DC, various artists I needed to ensure were doing okay in the middle of all this.
Read a friend’s new graphic novel, which is brilliant, which depressed me no end.
Got about four pages of script done, well below where I needed to be.
Tomorrow is likely to be all about mopping up all the stuff that didn’t get done or closed today.
Finishing the night with this. G’night.
Light day, which was just as well. Just a lot of messaging.
Set a time for a press interview about CV3.
Checked in with manager about a deal caught in the lockdown.
Quick CV4 design notes
Started breaking down the story for an eight-page short for DC.
Incepted Kevin Kolde into thinking he’s gone mad
Shouted at Declan Shalvey for a while
Checked in with manager about two other things
(I talk to my manager a lot)
Rewatched MARGIN CALL, because JC Chandor is an excellent screenwriter
Signed off on a promotion idea generated at NX
And did some thinking.
I leave you with something to watch: a short film adapting Borges’ DEATH AND THE COMPASS, which I was reminded of when I tripped over a cheap DVD copy of the later adaptation by Alex Cox. This one stars the incomparable Nigel Hawthorne. G’night.
