This and trying to cut down on the smokes? But I need to cut weight after a long winter and keep the brain running fast, so this is the horror I live in for a while.
Comments closed“Staff here are used to finding all kinds of creatures in baggage, from a 1.5-metre basking shark folded inside a box to a whole smoked monkey. But most meat comes dried, smoked, charred and chopped, so it is hard to identify it. In some cases, that’s probably the point. A hunk of meat being confiscated could be from a cane rat, catfish, monkey or pangolin – or it could just be a bit of beef.”
Smoked monkey!

The new king of the garden watches skeptically as I pour hot water over the chickens’ water trough to melt the inch of ice that formed on it overnight.
DEPARTMENT OF MIDNIGHT is officially locked. That took forever.
Yesterday I did the stupid thing of not taking my supplements for a day, just to see what happened. Sometimes I want a baseline, to measure any perceptible difference. And there is a difference. Vegetable brain by 4pm, broken sleep, REM dropped off, getting out of bed today a force of will. Note to self: do not do that again. I may not achieve much more than batching some meals today.
ON DECK: Technically, I should be fiddling around with the back end of that outline, but I doubt I’ll have the brain for fiddly stuff today. Marking up the call sheet for next week.
INBOX: 75
LISTENING: NIGHT TRACKS, right now. Spent some time fiddling around with Amazon Music last night (see above re: vegetable brain). I have these services, but really don’t do enough with them. Moved Alexa to the front of my phone, under a Smart Stack, to facilitate educational listening.
READING: Finished THE PATIENT last night, which makes four books I’ve finished this month.
LAST WATCHED: I ended up just flopping in front of Bloomberg while reading research material last night.
CONDITION: 7hrs 54mins sleep
OUTSIDE: “Paul Schrader on edibles“
Thought I’d pressed send on this an hour ago. So I’ll add:
250ml coconut based fake cream, half-measure Amaretto, two tsp cacao powder, ten seconds in the blander, instant dessert for tonight, spooned into ramekins and in the fridge.

Enjoying the design choices for the food products now being offered by NOMA Projects. I never got to eat at NOMA, obviously; and, of course, now I never will, as the restaurant is closed. But I have read Rene Redzepi’s books (which are excellent), and even got to talk to him a couple of times back in the days when you could use Twitter to talk to people. And now they’re releasing food products, which promise the tiniest hint of what it must have been like to dine there. I really hope it works out for them.
